Craig Ritter is the President and Owner of Ritter Insurance Marketing. He focuses his business on helping three groups succeed: the insurance agents that work with Ritter, the Ritter employees, and the insurance companies they represent. Ritter’s success has proven this is a great business philosophy.
Craig attended Pennsylvania State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance. Following in his father’s footsteps, he began working in the insurance industry in 1992, earning both his CPCU and AFSB designations. Further pursuing his passion for the business, he joined his father in 1997 to work for URL Senior Care Division, which was renamed Ritter Insurance Marketing after purchase from URL in 2005.
Since its humble beginnings, Ritter has grown from six employees to more than 160, with offices across the country in Harrisburg, Atlanta, Omaha, Scottsdale, Nampa, and New York. Craig believes what makes his company thrive is its deeply rooted morals. The family-oriented atmosphere and the enthusiasm and dedication of his employees have helped Ritter to flourish into the company it is today.
When Craig isn’t running the business, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Heidi, and their three children, Quinn, Callie, and Cash. Craig is sometimes referred to as “The Lawn Doctor” because he delivered his daughter, Callie, on his front lawn. (He loves to tell the story, so ask him about it sometime!) Craig is also known for having a heart of service, as he is actively involved in his church and several other charitable organizations, including a CarePoint in Swaziland and The Partnership for Hope.
Dave Dietz entered the insurance industry in 2000 as a licensed independent agent, specifically focusing on the senior health care market. Two years later, he became Ritter Insurance Marketing’s fifth employee, where he started as a senior marketer. Today, as the Senior Vice President of Marketing, Dave oversees the continued growth of the entire company’s marketing efforts.
Dave describes himself as a people person who loves interacting with a large staff. Because of his hands-on experience working as an independent agent, he greatly enjoys helping new agents and passing on his seasoned advice. He understands the daily struggles that insurance agents encounter, and this unique insight has helped him flourish in his career.
When he’s not in the office, Dave enjoys telling stories and watching Philadelphia sports teams – the Flyers are his and his daughter Ellayna’s favorite! With his previous experience as a professional cook, Dave also enjoys making dishes in the kitchen.
Van Hang obtained his bachelor’s degree in Professional Accountancy from Pennsylvania State University in 1987. Prior to working for Ritter, Van was employed by Highmark Inc. where he held various finance/internal audit positions. During his tenure at Highmark, Van led large-scale process integration initiatives and government program compliance reviews. Van then started his compliance profession in 1995 by helping develop the Highmark Compliance Program. He went on to hold several management positions in the compliance area within Highmark. Prior to joining Ritter Insurance Marketing, Van was the Director of Integrity Office at Highmark where he oversaw compliance-risk monitoring, code-of-conduct development and enforcement, conflict-of-interest management, OFAC compliance, and compliance policies and procedures reviews.
Van became Ritter’s full-time Compliance Officer in 2013, ensuring that agents and Ritter employees stay compliant at all times to meet our obligations and expectations from our insurance company partners. He enjoys working for a company where everyone is respected and appreciated and feels that Ritter’s core values are showcased daily through the hard work of the employees.
Some may not know that Van has a deep appreciation for art. When he’s not at work, he enjoys painting and experimenting with watercolors.
April Ford has had a rapid rise at Ritter since starting her career as a Marketing Assistant in 2003. Her zeal for the business led to her promotion to Senior Marketer three years later, and a second promotion to Marketing Supervisor in 2011. April excelled so well in these roles that she was asked to become the Marketing Manager in the summer of 2013, and later the Director of Marketing in the spring of 2014. Now, as Vice President of Marketing, she oversees the Marketing Departments at all of Ritter’s offices.
Even though April’s path to success has led to great accomplishments, she still remains humble. Despite how much Ritter has grown, the family-oriented values continue to hold true. April loves working for a company that genuinely cares about its employees and feels grateful that she can speak her mind and let her voice be heard. She is looking forward to the continued growth and expansion of the company and is excited about the new opportunities it will bring for employees.
April married her husband, Danny, in 2001, and together, they have two sons, Daniel and TJ. She is very involved in her kids’ lives as well as her community, attending all of their sporting events and helping to run the local youth football organization.
Cal Ritter began his insurance career as a personal producing agent in 1969. He later created a General Agency which he called CJ Ritter and Associates. When he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 1990, he semiretired from the insurance business. He eventually had a successful heart transplant and made a full recovery!
Several years after his surgery, he came out of retirement to help URL Financial form a senior marketing insurance brokerage, which was then called URL Senior Care Division. Cal’s son, Craig Ritter, joined the business shortly thereafter in 1997. In the eight years that followed, the company grew from one employee to five. In November 2005, Cal bought out URL Financial, renaming it Ritter Insurance Marketing. The company has grown exponentially over the years.
Cal attributes the success of Ritter to his son, Craig, the agents, the employees, and the management team. He says the management’s philosophy of promoting a positive work environment is what makes Ritter such a wonderful place to work. Personally, he finds fulfillment in helping seniors understand Medicare and uses his skills and knowledge of the topic to benefit others.
Cal enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, four children, and seven grandchildren.
Special Thank You from the Founder
“Ritter’s success is a direct result of our hardworking employees, the support of our agents, and a little luck! We’re committed to the continued success of the loyal agents we’re privileged to serve.” —Cal Ritter
