Ritter Insurance Marketing Business Profile — Featured in Central Penn Business Journal

Where their success is your success

Driven by a desire to help others, Craig Ritter built a company that puts its stakeholders first.

After 12 years in business, Ritter Insurance Marketing’s President continues to oversee tremendous success due to top-tier insurance agent service and employee recognition.

“Our agents are serving a very special population,” Ritter said. “I’m excited to support them in our shared role of helping Medicare beneficiaries find the best health insurance coverage.”

Ritter connects insurance agents with various products and provides the technology to help them manage their business, including quoting software and tools to help them reach more clients.

To further promote this effort, the company created its Shop & Enroll platform to facilitate connections between consumers and independent agents online and over the phone. The website helps consumers filter through the available Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and prescription drug plans in their area.

A family man, Ritter began the business in 2005 with his father, Calvin Ritter, and now considers his more than 140 full-time employees part of the family.

“I’ve always understood that employees spend as much time or more time at work as they do with their own families,” Ritter said. “When you’re working shoulder to shoulder with your employees, it gives you a different perspective on the kind of company culture that you want to build.”

Currently, Ritter employs 126 people at its Harrisburg headquarters and another 22 at five offices across the country. The company ranked 18th on Central Penn Business Journal’s Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies in 2016, and peaked at No. 1,329 on the Inc. 5000 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Companies in 2014. The company also earned recognition from Best Places to Work in PA for the past three years, placing 7th in 2015.

Though Craig hasn’t actively sold insurance in more than a decade, he remembers what it was like to manage a book of businesses while providing his own back-office support. He keeps his finger on the pulse of the industry, making it a point to meet with agents at Summits hosted by Ritter in multiple locations every summer.

“There are so many changes every year that agents need to consider to be able to make the right recommendations for their clients,” Ritter said. “To be able to see and evaluate all of those changes in one venue is critically important for our agents.”

Knowing he’s in a business of service, Ritter applies the servant leadership philosophy to every decision affecting his company.

“We take care of our employees, our agents, and the insurance companies we work with,” Ritter said. “If we take care of all three, our business results will take care of themselves.”
